Overlooking the bay, the captain's house is a place of quiet adventure. The water just in the distance beckons the viewer to look out, imagine, and feel the sound and sense of the sea.

Captain’s House, the artwork, is set within Port Townsend, Washington, which is located at the northwest corner of the state, overlooking the waters of Puget Sound. The town itself is a treasure trove of 19th century homes, from Queen Anne to Victorian cottages, interspersed with the modern (and less interesting) architecture of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Captain’s House invites us to step into the yard of one of these historic homes and to pretend, for a glorious moment, that this is our home, and it is our vista that overlooks the waters. A rowboat in the yard would make an excellent place to plant flowers, but because the sea is so close, we don’t fill the boat with dirt, because it can still be taken down to the docks, and launched from there.
